In a recent appearance on No Priors AI podcast, Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang said that he wants his engineers to put their keyboards to rest and solve the undiscovered problems. Pause your mind on undiscovered problems. Mr. Huang has gone beyond discovery of the problem; he moved straight to solving undiscovered problems. How does he intend to solve undefined problems is a question that every reader must evaluate? A known problem can be solved. How can solutions be devised for unknown, undefined, and undiscovered problems. Mr. Huang seems convinced that there are unknown problems in the universe. His engineers are tasked with developing and proposing a solution to an unknown problem. Logically, when we observe life, we can conclude that undiscovered and unknown problems cannot have solutions. Life does not throw an unknown challenge casually. Solutions do not exist in search of problems. The emptiness of undiscovered problems is incalculable.
We need to observe life. Observation from the perspective of every species galactically. Irrespective of the body, from the large Sun to the atomic structure, is powered by a life force. A tiny molecule of water on a hot road may only survive for a few seconds; a fly might live for a few days, or a large body like the Sun will exist for billions of years. Humans could survive at least 100 years. Life’s existence ranges from mere days to billions of years. We do not see problems in the observed natural phenomenon. Then, why is humanity, exclusively, subjected to problems? It should baffle our minds that we are the only species embattled with existential problems. Humans experiencing difficulties is an antithesis for a superior race. We have been battling hunger, poverty, and diseases for a century plus. Yet we are not close to solving these fundamental issues. Should we assume that these problems do not have solutions after a century of human effort? It is unquestionable that Mr. Huang’s search for undiscovered problems is not transformative of human condition. It is enervating because it will rob us of intelligence. Life, despite manifest changes, is erected on a timeless foundational principle. The growth of every organism is identical. We do not consume blood because it is in our body; we depend on food that is different to be transformed into various components inside the body. Seeing the growth of a tree on soil and water should awaken our awareness that life is identical; it manifests in manifold forms. Humans are one of the many species galactically.
We may be identical to other forms of life; yet we are distinct. Distinct because we are the only species on Earth with the potential to discover life beyond the visible realm. The visible realm is a fraction; the invisible is infinite. The visible body is finite; the invisible inner self is infinite. Similarly, the visible galaxy is finite; the invisible workings of majestic galactic vastness is infinite. Visible galactic to the invisible atomic is subjected to an identical principle of life. Observationally, we can deduce that there must be only one identical principle for all species. The Sun and the human body must be identical, else we cannot absorb the rays of the Sun, or convert the plants into nourishment for our body. The largest to the smallest are identical The intelligence of the manifold forms of life is different. The cosmos is not aware of existence; the atomic humans possess the awareness to discover beyond the self to observe the vastness. We must deploy the power of awareness to transcend in life. Our intelligence must serve a transcendental purpose in life. Instead, we are creating problems with our intelligence. Problems not only in our existence, but our negligence manifest in nature too. We need to awaken that an unaware entity cannot create problems.
We should observe our life to understand that everyday use of technology is timeless. A simple pot we use to boil water is a necessity in human life. A pot is an example of ancestral technology. Ancestral technology hasn’t vanished from our existence as the typewriters, floppy disks, telegrams, rotary phones, etc. It is apparent we have failed to understand technology is not an exclusive domain of modern times. We have lived with technology from time immemorial. However, technology from yesteryears is integrated in our lives without introducing artificial problems in existence. Returning to the pot, water cannot be boiled without a container that holds water. Without a thought, we deploy a kettle, or a pot to boil water to make a beverage. Was this effortless process an undiscovered problem in ancestral times? The question deserves an exploration. The person inventing the pot must be remembered. Our day will be unimaginable without a pot to boil water. A lifetime of search will not bring us close to identifying the discoverer of a pot. Modern times must recognize that the civilized life of humans is made possible only through technology. If we exclude modern conveniences, our existence is wrapped in the technology of ancestry.
Animals live on a diet of simple meat, nuts, seeds, or plants. They depend on their intellect to hunt and gather for their survival. Animals consume survival; the satisfaction of the meal is alien to them. We experience taste in food. We require a taste. Our nourishment needs are expressed by the body as taste. Why do we possess a taste? The tongue, the sensory organ for taste, exists in animals too. However, in animals the sense of taste is deactivated. Life is manifoldly brilliant. Like modern devices needing energy. Energy is the same for all devices; yet each device serves a specific purpose. Life is the same in all species; each species serves a specific purpose in the cosmic vastness. Preparing food requires multiple ingredients, and varying processes to be palatable for our body. Unpalatable food is not nourishing to us. The question the reader must ask is when nature discovered the human to produce tasteful fruits, vegetables, herbs, and how did an evolving human discover the usefulness of the abundance of nature? A thought on food as technology in our minds will awaken to a vastly bigger force, life! Existentially, humans are tied intricately to the technology of life. Like one energy powering multiple devices, one life powers trillions of life forms. We are awed by technology, but why are we not amused and curious about the existence of life in every molecule. Why do we look for problems without understanding our world?
The conundrum of modernity is the search for problems which do not exist. Every innovation robs humanity of responsibility. Responsibility is life, not only for humans, but for all species on the vast canvas of the cosmos. Thus, innovation robs the life out of humans. We aimlessly pursue meaning in a technologically saturated yet spiritually lifeless environment. Life is compromised, served as a convenient byproduct of innovation. Modern technology is not an innovation of humanity because the benefits flow upward to the corporation, and the environmental costs flow to society. We are unaware of the consequences of utilizing products necessitated by modern times. It robs us of vitality, vigor, and energy in life. Furthermore, modern conveniences are not biodegradable; the insatiable consumption and the brevity of life of modern gadgets is an environmental disaster. The demand for resources is a ticking timebomb for today’s technology. We are consumers of engineering, not poetry. Hence, our negligence toward the problems confronting societies and nations. A day is not too far when the demand for electricity, and water for AI farms will outpace human needs. Humans or technology, whose needs are essential, will be a question we will confront shortly? Engineering is a bidimensional world. Our world view is limited by the products we touch, feel, and utilize. How they are functional is beyond the intellectual capacity for much of the population. Shirking our responsibility has unforeseen consequences in life. Just as we do not discover how the products function, we do not discover how life is functional in the cosmic space too.
Discovery of life for humanity is only possible through shouldering responsibility. The responsibility of the self, family, community, nation, and broad nature has gone on a vacation. Our existence is reduced to the nucleus of selfishness. We do not have a perception of lateral, vertical, and transcendental worlds of the cosmos. Our small life has assumed cosmic proportions with the elevation of the self. We are unable to detect that our achievements are atomic in size. Atomic achievements have assumed galactic proportions in human existence. We are witnessing the naked parade of AI as the next phase of human advancement. Where are we headed in life when machines can replace humans? Corporations and humans are equally irresponsible in the world. We cannot distinguish between reality and AI. AI content is not seen as equal to the content developed by humans. Then, where is the superiority of AI and why is it the next phase of human development? AI developers are irresponsible, and we are reckless as consumers.
The problem we encounter today is the uncertainty about the origins of life. Abundant theories exist, but none have conclusive and irrefutable evidence to suggest what is the purpose of life? Plants and animals do not ask why they were born. Their world is protected from lack of awareness. It is an insult to compare us to the insentient species. We are aware of our existence. We are aware of broad nature. We are aware of the stars and galaxies. Despite the awareness, we are not compelled to ask why we are here? What is our purpose? What is our responsibility knowing we are intellectual and a superior race? These fundamental questions are not the realm of academic and scholarly pursuits. It is an essential pursuit of every human being. It is our responsibility to know. It is incumbent upon us to discover that there is a purpose for birth and death. Life is not an exercise of living once and enjoying. Should that be true, the disparity of human condition is discordant with living and enjoyment. The equality seen in nature in the consumption of air, water, and natural resources for all species falls apart in the human realm. We will have to conclude that nature treats a superior race less cordially than animals and plants.
Everyone is a farmer too. We are farmers for the body we possess. We need to treat the body with respect. It must be revered like a temple. A temple of life. We have forgotten that our body is a temple that holds divinity inside. The modern culture that has assumed superiority treats life and body with irreverence on the principles of independence. It encourages detrimental conduct to self and society. The results are seen in plain sight. The fundamental technological aspect of respect, which infuses responsibility, has gone on vacation from both individuals, corporations, and nations. Responsibility cannot be nurtured in a school. It must be cultivated and awakened with reverential cognition of life. Life is supreme for every species. Such reverence in a superior species awakens life even in a speechless and immovable rock to produce music. Where engineering makes us inure to life’s wonders, poetry awakens the softening quality of the mind to rekindle respect, and subsequently responsibility in the collective consciousness of humanity to see our cosmos with renewed wonder and inspiration. If we are not inspired by the cosmos, AI cannot and will not inspire the world’s population to reach life’s zenith. Mr. Huang perhaps will be better informed if he discovers the truth of the wonder of life to end his pursuit of undiscovered problems.
